On September 3, RBINS made an observation flight above Belgian waters for monitoring of marine mammals and pollution control.

Our operators observed 30 porpoises, of which some mothers with calves, and some seals. At the end of the flight, there was a special sighting: at 14.15h, shortly before landing, we saw a humpback whale at 11 km from Ostend-Middelkerke. We suspect the animal is following shoals of pelagic fish and ended up in our waters. These fish have been spotted frequently today as well.
